hi everyone, i am obviously new to these forums.  I want to start my robotics career, XD and i have a question about the $50 robot.

As one of the materials for the $50 robot, there is "serial port on computer."

What type of serial port is it?  Can i just use a USB port, or an adpter to the USB port? or do i have to buy a new driver with the port on it?

Thankyou in advance :D

*EDIT*
WOW im  dumb.  I forgot about my computer in my basement, it has a serial port. >.> Anyways, does the serial port have five  pins on the top, and four on the bottom?

THank you.
P.S. Moderator/Admin can u close this post because i think it makes me look dumb because i found the answer to my own question >>.<<  Thank you

That's alright, I think we've all answered our own questions a time or two.  :)

If, for some reason, you can't/don't want to use an older computer with a serial port, you can use a USB-to-serial adaptor.  From my experience, they work perfectly well with robots.  That is what I used when I had the BOE-Bot (which is functionally similar to the $50 robot).

I leave this open as I have something to add:

Yeap, you can just use USB with an adapter. If you have a laptop, this is my recommendation too!
