Title: School for Space Travel and Robotics
Post by: vidam on June 07, 2008, 05:38:16 PM
Wouldn't it be cool to have a privately owned school that trains people on space travel and robotics? Richard Branson has the intergalactic Virgin space company that takes people into space and to their destination on earth. Their is also a training program along with it to train these pseudo-astronauts prior to their trip.

Extending this iprogram to also train them to travel to mars or the moon, and also in robotics so they can fix and interact with them for the missions would be neat.

The idea of the school is to select talented, young people who are extremely dedicated in learning, and teaching them about robotics, AI, computer programming, hardware, and space travel etc....and of course advancing the research. It sort of reminds me of the Jedi school in Star Wars except not for training in the "Force".

I am going to propose it to an aquaintance who is currently being trained as an astronaut in the Virgin Galactic space program to see if she things it would fly with the people she knows.

lol

I talked to the lady who is training to be an astronaut for the Virgin Galactic space program.
Richard Branson would most likely not give money for this kind of institution for Jedi's in Robotics and Space travel unless it has some business aspect and can be profitable.

Is there a Rockefeller out there willing to give all his/her money for an excellent cause?

Form up the school as a not-for-profit corp and just start soliciting donations from businesses that might see the benefit.  Might get lucky and find an angel investor willing to fund the majority of the costs.
