Title: Underwater Sensor
Post by: gianka256 on March 17, 2009, 07:53:29 AM
Hi,
I need to use a ultrasound range finder sensor underwater. I didn't find anything that works for this. I also wrote to Maxsonar to request more information about the LV-MaxSonar-WR1 sensor and they told me that it is waterproof but doesn't range in water.
So i read the data sheet of the LV-MaxSonar-EZ1 model and at the end of the page i found this: "If an object is too close during the calibration cycle, the sensor may then ignore objects at that distance" .
So if i protect the sensor with PVC or PMMA and recalibrate the speed of sound for the water do you thing is gonna work???
Thank and sorry for my english.

Hi,

If you want it to work reliably, I think you're better off getting a ready made sensor before spending endless hours on something that won't ever come close.

Searching for the exterior part/sensor, try the word "hydrophone", that should give you loads of hits.
