Hey, I am currently looking for motors useful for quad copters
-the motors needs to have high RPM, adequate torque and be extremely light weight
-the quad copter is expected to lift a camera
currently the weight of camera and other parts are unknown
I am planning to use my arduino uno for this project
any suggestions or advice would be helpful

Errr... Finding the total weight is not just a good idea - it's mandatory!
You can't find the needed motor/propellor combination without knowing how much weight it have to lift.
-
so lets say i have the the weight,How would i calculate it,What formula would you use?
-
Obviously, the total available thrust will have to exceed the total weight, right? And you need some margin to allow some motors to be throttled back to make it turn / move.
A quick google search for "brushless DC motor propeller thrust" turns up quite a few resources such as http://adamone.rchomepage.com/guide5.htm (http://adamone.rchomepage.com/guide5.htm)
Of course, you have the old chicken and egg problem - you don't know how much it will weigh until you pick the motors and the batteries. But you don't know what motor / batteries to pick until you know the weight. Right? So you guess. Pick a weight, see what motors that leads you to, check to see if you are close to your target weight, then guess again. After a few tries, you should get a workable answer.

what is the formula to calculate lift for a quadcopter?

Did you google "propeller thrust"?
Lot and lots if info from simple calulators to complete equations on the design of propellers for quad copters.
-
i did but i dont know where to start
most of these calculators are complicated and have all kinds of features

Exactly.
The solution is not a simple one and is the reason I said to google and read. As with any learning you need to spend time studing.
The simplest solution is to use the exact motor-propeller combination someone else has used to successfully build a quadcopter.

alright thanks
