hexapod dof
« on: May 06, 2008, 05:38:35 PM »
At some point around 2:20 the front legs do something nice :)
But I don't understand how the servos are connected to the chassis. The builder was saying in comments that he used 18, so that's either 3 per leg, or some weird combination in the front legs (5?). So, how the heck can the legs rotate like that? What is the servo arrangment?

Anyway. This guy makes a cool sound when walking around (although via R/C)

Heh, yeah.
But still, how can the legs move like that, with only 3 servos?

2 will give you the stance (and leg liftup), while the other 1 rotates the leg on the chassis' plane (which allows actual movement)
The thing is, this guy uses 18 servos (6legs x 3 i guess), yet still has stance and perpendicular leg rotation.

How the heck is that done?  :-\

Yeap each leg has 3 servos. The 'hip' one rotates the leg left and right, and the other two bend the 'knee' and 'ankle'.

Not sure where that sound comes from . . . speakers?
