Python 3.0 just released . . . note that its backwards-incompatible

Darn, all our Python scripts won't be compatible anymore (we're obsolete :o). However, we knew this was going to happen (they've talked about this for a long time) and Python is a really good programing language; I don't think they'll dispoint us with their "improved" language (I'll have to translate all my scripts, but I'll do that after I have some more working scripts...). I wonder if there will be an Active Python IDE for this "updated" language sometime in the future?

SciTech, exactly what version are you using? ActivePython or just Python?
-
Python 2.5-ish; so I think it's just Python. I downloaded it from Python's main website. It came with the IDE "IDLE" (Python GUI). It works good for me and every Python code I found works when I run it. I only heard about ActivePython recently and thought it sounded nice (all of the built-in features would be useful).

ok, this can be shocking to some of you, where is python use , is it in on firmware/microcontroller and what is the advantage of python over C,

Python is the hip new language, if you know C you'll find it piss easy to learn.
It's used in a loads of visual effects software (Maya, Shake, Nuke), and using winPython you can write pc applications with it.
I reckon it is easier than C, but im happy in C land, it's what i know.

What's this winPython you speak of? Google is failing to find me a link . . .

I think he means the PythonWin Editor IDE that you get when you download Active Python. He may also be referring to the PyWin32 set of extensions, it provides binding to the Windows API and Windows COM (so, you can use it to control Windows, I guess).

easy comport access?
i'm always looking for easier ways to write easy applications for serial devices :).
mmm it feels good to be back on the forums i've been gone for a while.
