Inexpensive brushless DC motor controller
« on: July 01, 2008, 10:56:23 AM »
I've been searching for a cost effective brushless DC motor controller that can control a 24V 250W motor via PWM... The only ones I have found seem to be hundreds of dollars... does anyone know where I can find an inexpensive one, or does it make more sense to make it myself?

At that power you shouldn't expect something cheap, you know.

I just purchused this one yesterday, I'll tell you how it works then it comes in.

I never knew they made a board for the L298 , i've always used the chip by itself
Check out the Roboduino, Arduino-compatible board!

The L298 is not a brushless motor driver.

Whoops, should have read the post :D.  Your right, does he want a Stepping motor driver or something?  If not, i'm of no help :P

Do you need forward & reverse, or just a single direction ?  A 10A controller shouldn't cost too much, though I'm not 100% certain about the voltage - the brushless controllers with which I'm familiar generally aren't used above 15V, e.g.

L298 is not a stepper motor driver either.... It's a dual H-bridge... if you want to connect a stepper interface it with L297 to have stepper control...

But L298 can be used for brushless motors... as far as you have some other goodies on board....
To make a brushless motor controller you need both extended programming and electronics knowledge...
