model rocket on international flight?
« on: August 28, 2009, 08:36:12 AM »
I want to take some micro-sized model rockets on an international flight, but I somehow feel its just not going to happen. I've seen people take rifles on flights before, so might still be able to do it.

Anyone with experience?

I'm sure the airport will say 'we need to inspect it first' . . . but that requires me to bring it during my flight, when its too late if it doesn't work out . . .

If I remember correctly, there was a presentation at the Defcon conference about getting crazy stuff in an airplaine and all the procedures involved (and also how to take advantage of it, this is defcon after all :)
I read the transcript and year or two ago.
Unfortunately the Defcon website is blocked (damn proxy) so I cannot find it. But try browsing www.defcon.org (don't do that at work, especially you admin :p )

i am not sure but they let some thing through like that if you declare them, but they will search everything else aswell i guess.

But you still may be stuck at checkin.

do you need to take it in your overhead bag or can you check it? I asked my buddie at ups who flys international regularly, he said call the airline ahead of time explain the item, why your carrying them and they should process you a pass, of course they will search everything when you borad but the pass will let them know you are ok to carry the stuff. it also might need to be locked up by the airline, Also he wanted to say wost come worst you can ship it by ups next day air and avoid the hassel ;D

Best of luck

shipping would be a good way around the checkin if it poses a problem.
