Title: General questions about the 40$ robot!!!
Post by: mohamed on February 23, 2008, 08:38:23 AM
now i have complete the circuit of the 40$ robot but i want to ask  questions
1.do i have to adjust the 20k preset?
2.could i use 2 6v dc motors instead of the 12v or not?
3.how can i reduce the speed of the motors?
4.my motors move in opposite direction to each other, what wrong did i do,and how to fix this?
thanks for your help.... :)

1. you adjust the preset to change something ( read the tutorial to find what), if the bot works fine the way it is , dont touch it.
2. The 6V motors would go faster than they are supposed to at 12V and will be handling 200% what they are supposed to be handling, they will probably break. If the 6V motors are getting 6V then its fine, if they are getting 12V its bad

ok first thanks for your reply.....
second about the high speed of the motors can i attach 340 ohm resistors in series with the motor to reduce the speed or that would be wrong?

3.how can i reduce the speed of the motors?
There are many techniques to control the speed of a DC motor and Pulse Width Modulation(PWM) is the most popular. In this technique the motor is switched on and off continuously to control the speed of the motor. For PWM you don't need to depend on microcontrollers, you can use a 555 timer. For more information, Google search "Pulse Width Modulation using 555 timer".

my motors move in opposite direction to each other, what wrong did i do,and how to fix this?
To make both your motors move in the same direction, interchange the connections of the motor, which is rotating backwards, in the L293d.

4. - You may connected wrong the motor wires. For example, in one of the motors, you could connected the wires ( like + and - , and in the other motor you could put - and +), it can change the direction of the motor.
