Batteries and charging
« on: June 09, 2008, 04:43:07 PM »
I am trying to make the $50 robot i am looking for batteries and a way to charge them. at the moment i a thinking of taking a AA battery holder that has 6 batteries and putting 5 Ni-MH AA batteries with 1.2V and 2000mAh and bridging one battery with a wire so i will have 6.0V. i am wanting to know if i can charge them all at once or do i need to put them into a battery charger i am wanting to mod a old Cell charger to charge all five at once in my battery holder.
i really want to know if i can charge all 5 batteries at once?
and if so what kind of voltage/amperage would i want to look for?

Scott.

either method will work

of course you'll want to charge them all at once

think about it , all the other NiMH battery packs are just a bunch of rechargeable AAs

make sure you use the same type of batteries

as for amperage and voltage - charging amps should not exceed 1/2 the amp hour of the batteries and voltage should be like 2 volts higher
just look for any NiMH charger that can handle a 6V 2 AH battery pack , and that will work

Thanks airman, another question i have 2 power supply's one rated at 12V 500ma and another at 6V 650ma
which one is best?
and if the 12V one is does it need a voltage regulator?
and if that is right will this one work 8V 1A Voltage Regulator and how do i wire it?

Thanks Scott.
