Post by: Lynnette on May 17, 2007, 01:50:39 AM
Hi i'm currently doing a project on RC sumo robot and i would need some advice.

which type of wheels would be better for a 2 wheeled robot, with more friction?

I used foam wheels.

Basically you want the highest coefficient of friction between your wheel material and the floor material. The coefficient of friction can be easily determined by looking up the charts.

For how to calculate it, and a friction chart, check this out:

I used poured (molded) polyurethane. It makes for very sticky tires - if you put my robot down on a piece of paper, and then pick it up, it will pick up the paper as well, stuck to the tires.

You have to keep the tires very clean (with rubbing alcohol) though.
