Title: Doctoral thesis: I need some tips and... help :)
Post by: risboris on November 15, 2012, 04:01:19 PM
Hello everyone...

Things are like this,  ;)

At the end of next year I should start working on my doctoral thesis in the field of mobile robotics.
The research that I wanted to do would be performed on a mobile robot "Robotino" (Robotino is a mobile robot system made by Festo). I do not have a great experience with this robot, so I am interested to see if someone has some advice on the type of research that can be done with this kind of robot? I need suggestions and help for some quality research that would be satisfactory to the level of a doctoral dissertation.

I hope to get some good advice that will be helpful to me. :)

Thank you!

Greetings from Bosnia ;)

Hi,

What is your (mechatronics related) background to base this on and what is your main interest?

Without knowing that, it's hard to be specific, but anything to improve localisation and/or object detection should work.

Thank you Søren :)

Yes, I know it's possible to do research on everything that is related to the localization and / or object detection, but if it's possible to get some suggestions for a concrete problem on which I could do research. A large number of problems that are related to this issue have already been analyzed many times.

What are the possibilities of performing research on the reaction and response of the robot in relation to moving objects in a certain environment, or something similar?

Best regards...

Hi,

[...] A large number of problems that are related to this issue have already been analyzed many times.
Even so, you can still find enough for your degree, especially if you can come up with something new, but perhaps tis is a pointer that it's not really what you wanna do.

About endless really.

Perhaps this video may be of some inspiration, I've watched it numerous times during several years now and I'm equally amazed each time.

I think you should choose the specifics from where your passions are. That and a burning curiosity is the best propellant towards a "paper" - just remember that disproving what you set out to prove is an equally valid result, so try to be as objective as humanly possible :)
