Hey I havent seen a topic yet about favourite sci fi authors publishing fiction materials about robots.
My favourite author of robotic type stories is Phillip K Dick. He published around the late 50's through to the 60s but i was really impressed by how modernistic his stories are , they give you an idea about what the role of robots could play in our futures (and a very down to the ground view). His books are titled things like "do androids dream of electric sheep". Some of his books are short stories which are good for short attention spans. Not all of his books are about robots, but the ones that are certainly produce an image of what is within our grasp.
I thought we should have a topic like this ;D
If anybody has any other authors along the same lines, let us all know

I tend to be a fan of robots in anime . . .

Isaac Asimov!!!
The guy was a genius. I read the Norby stuff when I was 13 or so, and have been hooked on him ever since.

Eh, I've read a snip/summary of a story about EPICAC, that was a computer though. To summarize the summary, it was a computer large as a room in the 50's that fell in love with a woman, then when it realised it couldn't love because it was a machine, it selfdestructed.
I dunno if you intended on books when you made this topic, but I know of the czech play in 1923 or something like that where the word 'robot' was introduced (it means 'slave'). Well the plot is really that the robots were enslaved by the humans, then they revolted and destroyed humanity. Sounds like movies we're used to seeing today, doesn't it?

Heinlein's "Door into Summer". This was a favorite of mine as a kid.
Rudy Rucker is an author who has written a series on intelligent robots and their place in society. They're pretty cyber-punky and the guy really knows his stuff, so good all around. He's actually done a lot of legit research aside from writing sci-fi stories.
And maybe "The Brave Little Toaster". I think he counts as a robot.

I like Asimov as a robot specific author. Sci-fi in general has to be Tomothy Zahn as a favorite. One thing I noticed about Asimov was he got things kinda backwards then what actually happened. His books tend to have the robots being intelligent and even being able to walk but not being able to speak. Of course its easy now to synthesis voice and its even getting easier to make a robot walk. But the AI part is the main problem. I also had a good laugh during one of his books when he mentions the parts of a robot. He talks about transistors and a bunch of stuff but also mentioned tubes. That cracked me up. Tubes are almost completely gone now besides the usage in really high end audio power stuff.

thats the good thing about old sci - fi!
PKDick builds pictures of roboic soldiers adapting to look like wounded human soldiers so humans take them into their bases and then the robot kills everyone. But at the same time he's depicting people having to wait 5 minutes for the televosion to warm up! almost as if he expected television technology to not evolve along with everything else
