I forgot to post it but if you want to see the picture of its progress heres the lnk http://www.flickr.com/photos/brandon121233/sets/72157600185375431/show/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/brandon121233/sets/72157600185375431/show/) not all are in order (I don't know how to organize/rearrange the order of photos in flickr)

You should cut up some boxes and made a large square of walls so you don't have to chase it around with a plank :)

Sounds like there is an electronic love affair going on between your robot and your camera...  ;)

Im very impressed! Good work on the chassis, too!

So whats your future plans for the bot?

Hey, that's actually pretty neat :)

I think the next stage should be adding a IR distance sensor instead. Maybe servo mounted like Admin's.

That would be cool.

What's the noise like now? Does your robot turn when it isn't supposed to or something?

First of all the robot is just a well engineered working base, to which I can add any kind of function or sensor to it I wish. And secondly, no it still has a lot of problems, what you see is a video of like my 8th try of it not going in circles, right now its pretty unreliable, but I am debugging it step by step and it should be working without a hitch in a couple of days. I also plan on putting IR sensors on either side of the ultrasonic to provide a backup if the sonar does not see it and also so it can better decide which way to turn if in a corner. It's a work in progress, and I want to thank everyone who has given me advice on it in the last couple of weeks! ;)

Looks like you ran into the same problem that my wall robot had.
At different levels of battery it would drift varying degrees to one side.

I think the solution to this would be to add a pi loop for each motor output.
You don't need to measure RPMs or any such thing just use a a2d on each voltage
output of your motor output. I'm sure if you made it this far you can get the PI working.

Famous article about PID control (http://www.embedded.com/2000/0010/0010feat3.htm) for your reference.

Right now my greatest concern is for the wheels, which are relatively unprotected as the sonar isn't wide enough to detect and avoid chair legs that  the wheels get caught on. I will be fixing this by adding two IR sensors on either side of the sonar to detect close range obstacles and turn in the opposite direction, or turn around if both are blocked. But that will still be a couple of days before I can get around to finishing that. ( here in Maryland High School is still in session until June 15th, so finals will be coming up , further bogging down my schedule, hurray for summer break!)

nice walbot. how did you mount the wheels? arnt they capsela(sp) wheels?

Yes, wow I didn't know anyone else who knew Capsela existed (I loved playing with that as a kid). To mount them my Grandfather and I made custom brass hub adapters for them on his lathe (I need to get my own lathe soon though...). You can see the pictures of the hubs here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/brandon121233/sets/72157600185375431/show/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/brandon121233/sets/72157600185375431/show/) (they're there some where).

yea I got a basic kit at home, too ;D
that was back when I thought $100 was a lot of money for robots . . .

lol, i just had a brilient idea, i have tons of those wheels, and some treads too.

Nice job on the lathe. oh, the wonderfull things you can do with expencive equipment

edit, whats your secreat to keeping that plexi glass so shiney and clear?

Its Lexan, and whenever drilling taping holes, or cutting it, I use saran wrap to protect both sides (I took it off in the pictures so it would look better. Also lots of Windex. It is a little more upkeep for clear bases to look good, but I think it makes the robot a whole lot cooler because you can easily see how it works and where everything is.

well i have seen some anamolies in ur bot like the turns it makes is always to right in case it gets an obstacle i think u can work on the code of urs to make it more flexible

What kit are you using? (what board is that?)

I meant the power/programmer/microprocessor board... which is evidently called the Arduino, thanks to the link you provided.

The code that makes it spin, thats sweet, can you paste it here?

give some AI to your bot like it finds out which side the left or right is neraer tot he wall and which side is farthest then turn accordingly

this video is old, have you read my tutorial? I added two IR sensors that SHOULD be able to let it decide which way to go, but I'm still working out some kinks in the code so I don't have a video of that yet.

Well, you bot is equal to the Episode I bots.  You defeated yours with a cardboard box, EI's bots were defeated by a bunch of natives with slingshots.
