Matching Servo Driver and Motor Power
« on: June 06, 2011, 09:20:35 PM »
Hello,

I have a 100W servo driver and I would like to drive a 250W brushless servo. If I hook up my servo to the driver will it just be driven at a lower speed and torque than the maximum allowed values, or will the load damage my driver? If I use a 100W power supply, will that just limit the performance, and spare my drive? I've also considered installing power MOSFETS on the output of the driver and step up to 250W. I appreciate your suggestions.

Provided you aren't running the controller 'wide open' you should be alright. I would say keep it under 50% duty cycle. If you did add a few more power MOSFETs the 100watt power supply would surely keel over on you.
