Title: Where can I find a DIY kit to make a robotic hand?
Post by: SuperRobot on October 31, 2010, 06:36:56 PM
Well, I'm studying computer engineering but I also really love Robotics and Electronics, even if I'm just a really new beginner.
I really learn things by doing projects, so I'm really interesting in making my own robotic hand (that can move electrically, buttons, sensors, etc.) before deciding to really go into this section also. (That's how I went to programming, by doing a CMS in php, it was very hard even if some people can do it in 3-4 hours, I was with 0 knowledge).

I have found a few things, but wow, this category is really expensive. My budget is around $120.00 for this project.

I have seen some amazing robotic hands, that I wish I could do in the future, such as:

I really LIKE THAT SO MUCH, I would even invest my whole salary on it if it was enough.(Talking about the first link)

DIY Robotic Hand (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2WEVo9YzVE#)

I know isn't easy, but please something easy to understand (as easy as possible).

Thanks A LOT.

I dont know of any kits , plenty of people have done mechanical hands and there are many ways to do this , it depends on what you wish to do with the hand and how well you want the hand to do its task .

I remember seeing one that could play the piano but I think this would blow your $120 budget .

You can make a very effective hand looking gripper with some heavy drive chain links (3 per finger ) some steel cable and a glove ( sorry I dont have a picture )

Sounds good, I mean, my biggest wish for project is the first one. But I guess I need some knowledge first, since I'm willing to invest good to do the first hand (the one with the glove).

Well I want it electronically, I mean if I turn it on it moves automatically. Since I have seen similar projects but you have to pull something to make it move etc.

Do you have any tutorial for the one you said?

Thanks

I was planning on building the hand similar to the first video.  I contacted the guy who made that video and he said he got the plastic hand off eBay: link (http://cgi.ebay.ca/Robotic-Hand-4M-Kidz-Lab-Science-Kit-4m-NEW-/260611389437?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cada637fd#ht_500wt_922)

Yes, the plastic things, but how about the electronic things? What are the pieces needed with the links pls?

Thanks
