Easy HDPE source
« on: January 20, 2007, 03:11:17 PM »

Just thought I'd point out that for smaller robots and parts, you can pick up kitchen cutting boards made of HDPE from Wal Mart, KMart, Target, etc.  I bought one at Big Lots today for $3.   8" x 12" x 1/4".  It was either that or order online (couldn't find any locally for a reasonable price) for $6 per sq. ft. or so, plus shipping.

FYI...

I'd been thinking this for a while too. It would be an ideal source for people following the new "$50 robot for beginners" tutorial. In Ireland you can pick up nice large chopping boards for a few Euro in Tescos.

And while you are still in the design phase you can use it to chop up a nice salad to get your brain working ;)

I've found that most of these cheap cutting boards are made of polypropylene versus polyethylene which the polypropylene creates more static which could be bad.
