I have come across this little servo, Power HD Micro Analog Servo HD-1900A.
at this site, http://www.robotgear.com.au/Product.aspx/Details/375. (http://www.robotgear.com.au/Product.aspx/Details/375.)
Is this a suitable alternative to the hs-311 for the 50 dollar photovore robot upgrade, as it's cheap to buy here in Australia.

The IR sensor isn't a lot of weight to move, so almost any servo that you can mount it to will work. (Within reason of course)

There's no way micro servers can't move around two ounces of plastic that's only like an inch long.

I'm assuming that those are for the drive wheels? Can't really be sure, there really is no photovore upgrade because it is a photovore to begin with. For drive wheels micro servos won't be enough, but for an IR rangefinder (if that was what he meant) it should be fine.

Can you get a Hitech HS 322
Thats the original upmarket version of the 311 that has sort of been discontinued.

Just because its cheaper doesn't mean it'll save you money.
Think about what you'll have to spend if the el-cheapo servo you buy breaks or fries for no reason within just a few week of you using it. Its cheap for a reason! :P
The HS-311 is really reliable, I've owned like 20 of them over ~9 years and only one fried for no reason, and one broke a gear. Compared to most servos I've used, thats really good reliability.

I purchased the power (hd-1900a) micro servo already, i'll let you know if it fries. It does however drive(rotate) the tiny sharp infrared rangefinder and it's aluminium mount with ease. I think using a standard hs-311 or similar is better upon reflection as i can more easily reuse a standard servo for my next project.
