360 degree view idea
« on: March 18, 2008, 08:36:42 PM »
Not sure if this would work but with enough processing power it might. I have seen some cameras that are pointed at a dome. This allows for 360 degree view of the surroundings. like this

Expensive yes but would a shinny dome and CMU cam with some programming give you enough of a view to maybe do some tricky navigation with an omni robot.
Not sure if mapping with video would work well but maybe tracking a target or color.

Would Roborealm be able to work with such a distorted video?

Any ideas?

Yeap. Roborealm would treat it like a normal image, and send out data. Then you just need to put that data into a transform equation that accounts for the dome distortion.

I'd think it'd be easier to "unfold" the image before processing it, or else shape recognition probably won't work

hmmmm good point . . . i guess shape recognition wouldn't work so well . . .

have you tried emailing the guy who wrote roborealm?
