Title: advanced robotics presentations
Post by: Admin on February 16, 2007, 07:47:57 PM
Back when I used to live in Pittsburgh, I would go to these weekly robotics talks at CMU where experts would talk about their latest research. It was always very fascinating, inspiring, and useful.

But after I moved I lost out . . . isolated from state-of-the-art robotics . . .  :'(

Fortunately, the worlds first university to have internet has finally decided to post the talks online in year 2007 . . .
(hint of both sarcasm and joyous happiness combined :P)

anyway, here are the abstracts and presentations (in multiple formats):
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~robocast/

enjoy!

ps - they will have about 3 new talks added each month
pps - none of it is streaming video, so expect 300mb+ files :-\

Hi, your link is great of help, by the way can I you one question? Think you should know which labs are the best in UGV or Humanoid robotics rite?
Thanks a lot for the infor, I searching for the labs in my area, and I'm outside US.

CMU has the best robot labs for most things. But Japan has better biped labs, such as Waseda University.

Hi Admin, thanks for the infor, do you have the ranking of robotics labs in US please, I did my home work, and find out so many labs, all of them said they are good, of course. I'm most impressed with MIT, CMU, Berkeley, Utexas, Virginia Tech. But I wana know how society of robot look at them, your personal rank also most welcome.

CMU is by far the best. The others dont come close . . . (and there is no official ranking)

quantitatively, CMU has more robotics papers published annually than the entire country of Japan.

in terms of funding, number of projects, number of researches, etc 2nd place doesnt even come close to CMU ;)

as for MIT, although they do put out some good robot research, its only a tiny percent to what CMU puts out. ;D

CMU also has the best robotics club ever! (spoken like a true biased alumni)

------------------

Anyway, there are many new robot research videos now posted to the link above - watch them and learn state of the art robotics research!

Hi, what is ur nick name tw? I think it would be beter to call u by nick name than admin  :P
Thanks for the infor, and you are a great supporter of CMU, so CMU is rank no1 in robotics  ;D
I'm not from Japan, and I'm not considering go to japan, japanese sucks  :-[  but their robots are great.
I read ur tutorial about omni-robot, how do you think of omni-robot with 4 wheels, but arrange like 4 wheels in your car.
Have a nice weekend.

Hey, hey, hey. Watch out your mouth. I am from Moscow, I refused to go to MIT and came to Japan(Tsukuba) because here is the best place to study robotics (just my opinion, but sincerely the robotics program in MIT is not advanced at all). But Japanese doesnt sucks, if you cant learn it, then you should reconsider who/what sucks. And I believe that insulting other cultures is against the rules of the board.

Hi John, maybe there's a misunderstanding here, Japanese means language, not the people, and you will be ok as long as you stay inside campus, when you go outside, everything is in Japanese, most of the people there neither wana talk in English nor wana learn to talk. But it will be great experience for you. Their working style is like there's no life :D , maybe it is the same in Wall St.
Btw, good luck for your intern, hope you bring some new video from Japan for us.
