how do I design a robot?
« on: March 15, 2009, 07:54:02 PM »
Hello

I am interested in learning how to design robots using software, but I do not know of any reliable programs that are affordable (hopefully free) or somewhat user friendly.

I have experience in Mechanical Drawing, as I have taken it in high school. I never got to use CAD though I only drew stuff on paper... Please guide me in the right direction.

I am getting solidworks soon. I learned it last year in school, so I am getting it because it I know how to use it, it is easy to learn (in my opinion) and has some nice features.

There might be a demo, but the full program isn't free. Just start with Google Sketchup, free and simple.

definitely go with sketchup, because you can do a lot of stuff easily, and you can also download models directly from the internet.
(I modled a maze robot in it and used 2 downloaded HS-311 servos in it)

For solidworks you can download models also. But like they said solid works is not free (unless you get it illegal) start out with sketch up, than after you get some money I recommend getting SolidWorks or AutoDesk Inventor.
