Planning on starting a rescue robot project
« on: January 27, 2010, 07:31:25 PM »
Seeing the recent images from Haiti has given me the inspiration to build a rescue robot. I'm looking on making a relatively small robot platform that uses extendible tracks and linear actuators to help it traverse obstacles and fit into cavities in the rubble where a person could not get to. i plan on this being a relatively long project since i will be building most of the components myself, including the linear actuators. Maybe i'll put a tutorial up on how to make the linear actuators. Will put up more information and sketches soon!

Someone just beat you to it:

And you should do some googling on Disaster City, Texas

http://www.teex.com/teex.cfm?pageid=USARprog&area=USAR&templateid=1117

Its a unique testing field with staged disasters for robots and people to train on. It's pretty cool, looks like a theme park almost.
