I'm looking for the best way to control your robot from about 3000 feet away?  I also need to transmit live video.

Is this the best route for me to take?  Also there will be plenty of buildings and walls inbetween the robot and pc

What about cell phone control? More costly but best suited for outdoors and any distance.
Knowledge does not weigh.

I have been recommended a drone cell, but this cannot transmit video.

Transmitting video with obstacles such as buildings will get very expensive for sure. What about sending images through mms every few seconds? Not live video but something.
Knowledge does not weigh.

Would wifi work though?  Or does that not get good reception in the city/  I would probably only need 1500 feet with buildings.  What about rf modules?  I've heard about them, not sure how to use them.

http://www.usbwifi.orconhosting.net.nz/ with a range up to 5 kilometers.  Being in the city won't matter, with the right dish you can boost a wifi signal 50 plus miles.

You might want to check the wifi coverage in the operation area of your bot.  It might be able to control the bot over the internet using existing hotspots.  Or you could even carry wifi routers and drop them to act as boosters when the signal got week.

Could I use this transmitter and receiver to transmit video?  If so, what camera can I use?  Also how could I hook a batter yup to it instead of using the wall transformer

Any kind with a compatible cable connector.

Measure the voltage of the wall transformer, then use a battery of the same voltage. You can probably even use a lower voltage. Just cut the power supply wire and attach a battery plug to that wire.

You will also need a TV to view the images, or an adapter that lets you view the video by USB to your computer.

Yes!!!  Finally I have found a solution to my camera!  It says it can connect to a monitor so will I be able to connect it to my parallel port?

ehhhhh if it has a parallel port connector, then yes. Otherwise, you'd need an adapter :P

Only if they use the same battery can you use just one switch.
