Robotic Arm Project
« on: October 19, 2008, 03:20:41 PM »
Hey everyone I just joined the forum.

I am designing a robotic arm that is expected to weigh between 10 and 15 lbs and be the length of an average human arm.  It also needs to pick up some kind of load (perhaps 5 lbs).  The arm will have 5 DOF (2 at the shoulder, 1 at elbow, 2 at wrist) along with an open/close gripper.  I'm looking at Hitec servos on servocity and have a couple questions.

Is it fine to use either analog or digital servos, or both for all of the movements?

What size servo (as far as torque) might I need for each of the movements?
Here are a couple that I have looked at:
http://www.servocity.com/html/hsr-5980sg_servo.html    (for the shoulder)
http://www.servocity.com/html/hs-5475hb_standard_digital.html   (wrist and gripper)

Finally, Should I use one battery pack for all of the servos or separate them?

Thanks
