does that mean i have to built the robot first then modify servos?
If that the cases then why servos is at first step also in the tutorial the next step is to screw the servo to the HDPE?
how should i moldify servo when it screwed on the HDPE?

You first need the board done. Also unscrew the servo first... Airman00 tutorial for modifying servo's is better IMO so you might want to check that out too.

To modify it the way airman00 said you won't need your electronics build but for admins tutorial electronics are needed.

This question might actually help out many people down the road. I read the tutorial for this also and have built the $50 robot. I modified the servo's the way admin did but wanted to look into doing it this way. My question is do all servo's require the same resistors in place of the pot? and if its different for different servos, how do u figure out what resistance is needed in place.
if this has already been asked/ answered please let me know and ill look a little deeper.

one thing that would be good is a mini servo tutorial. mini servos off deal extreme are really cheap and they work well in continuous rotation (from my experience). i think i'll post one when i get some more 2.2k resistors. unfortunately you can't pot mod them since the pot is an integral part of the mechanics and it too needs to be modified for continuous rotation.

I am getting ready to modify my Servos for the $50 Robot and understand everything up to and including getting the servo's to 0. I am able to accomplish this with a Radio Control Transmitter and Receiver. The part that I get confused about is turning the Potentiometer to where the gears no longer turn and then super gluing the pot in place. My understanding is, once you get the servos to 0 you want the pot to stay in that position or do you want it somewhere else? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Just turn the pot to the point where there is no movement from the motor, small needle nose pliers really help here. Then when you have it centered, drop some super glue on it, you may also need to readjust because if you bump the pot a bit because then it will slightly go out of tune, just quickly adjust it with the pliers or whatever you are using.

if i glued the pothead is there a way to un-glue it? dont want to waste a servo. Also i open it and there white liquid, what those thing are they oil?

You can use CA to bond it, and later if you want to remove it use CA debonder.

but don't you have to cut a tab in the servo, making it un-repairable?

Some servos have a removable insert that can be removed instead of drilling the tab out. Also if there is no insert one can glue the pot into the gear after it has been drilled out.

You dont need that stopper for the servo to operate like a normal servo.

Yeah its like 'grease' - try not to wipe it off and if you're drilling out the tab then try to make sure you don't get lots of plastic flakes in the 'white stuff'
