How To Calculate Speed of Treads?
« on: September 24, 2011, 01:10:59 PM »
Hey guys,

I was wondering how you would calculate the top speed of treads?  Does anyone know of a formula that can be used to find this?

Thanks

Not sure exactly what you mean(?) The top speed they can handle or the top speed they a 'bot will go with a certain RPM or...?

Assuming the top speed, think of tracks as an extra pavement that you carry along and lay out to drive over with the rollers (those that drive the tracks) and you can see that the speed it goes depends on roller RPM and diameter (the diameter touching the tracks, not the "spikes" that drives it, if you gather).
Regards,
Søren

A rather fast and fairly heavy robot with quite large wheels needs what? A lot of power?
Please remember...
Engineering is based on numbers - not adjectives

Ok thank you this helps me visualize a lot better.  I should be able to figure it out now.
