Come share your passion for technology and creativity at Robot Fest and Mid-Atlantic Mini-Maker Faire! April 24, 2010 will mark the 10th annual Robot Fest, a one day event for those with the unquenchable urge to create new, previously unseen forms from lifeless electronics and mechanical parts of metal and plastic. In the early years Robot Fest focused on the demonstration of robotic projects, but our visitors wanted more. We have met the demand by expanding into realms where technology is used in any creative fashion. Robots and creative tech, side by side. And the visitors responded with over 1200 attendees at the 2009 event. One goal of Robot Fest is to spark an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math with workshops and activities designed to appeal to both boys and girls. Robot Fest features regional teams of students proud to present their robots built to compete in state and national competitions. Join us for our first Wearable Tech Fashion Show presenting electronic embedded smart fabrics. While you’re at it, see robot-themed jewelry and clothing. The LEGO store at Arundel Mills will provide hands-on Flight Simulator demonstrations and kids can experiment with RoboDog and Gregor the Gorilla. Stop by and see full-size R2D2s wandering the halls. Play with experimental games and controllers from University of Baltimore Game Design. Art Institute of Washington is bringing their Dead Animatronics and Beatbots will demonstrate Keepon, a socially interactive robotic character for entertainment, research, and therapy. There will be much, much more including some surprises from our DIY cohorts from Maryland and DC. For many years MAKE Magazine, published by O’Reilly Media has shared our vision and consistently supported Robot Fest. Starting this year we are happy to be called the Mid-Atlantic Mini-Maker Faire. NEW IMPORTANT CHANGESRobot Fest is experiencing growing pains! As the number of guests has increased each year, our expenses have increased as well! Most folks do not realize that Robot Fest organizers use personal funds to cover expenses in the hope that auctions, t-shirt sales, etc. will be sufficient to reimburse us. This approach severely limits what we can do each year to make Robot Fest more enjoyable, interesting and fun! Starting this year we are suggesting an admission donation of $6 for adults, $3 for middle and high-school students. Children elementary school and younger are still free! At this time we don't have the capability to accept credit/debit/bank cards. And for a little fun, have you noticed our Robot Fest Robot logo is wearing cool sunglasses? Bring your sunglasses and save $1 per person! You don't have a pair of sunglasses? No problem. Visit this page, and make your own glasses.
