Hi, I'm Andres Bella, not long ago I played the game mechwarrior and I though it will be cool have one of thouse so I deside to build one, I only had $1000 budget, so this is as far I got I didnt had enough money to put the guns, if you want a more advance MECH a good investor will be great.

Very cool
Any way to make the feet move faster ?
-
yeah I think I can make it move faster if I makes some changes, I was never good in physics, so I'm trying to do the calculations to get the most distance and can still hold the weight

Check this one out:

Nice work though, keep it up :)

thanx, I seen that one, but with a little adjustment on mine it can be for sale for as low as $1200 and that one I think cost like $100000 cuz all the computers and the 12 motors it has the battery doesnt last that long, and I wanted to show japan :) that you can make a robot as cool as that with only 2 motors and no computer :)

@IceMetal
Please do the change to make the legs go higher and faster ! And please post documentation , your project is amazing .

thanx airman I was trying to do the documentation but I'm not really good at drawing, is anyone in this forum going to robobusiness in pittsburgh??
-
Hey, Ice Metal, i just have to say THATS AWSOME!! Does it have a microcontroller? You should try riding that around in the streets to see what people think. ;D
-
THATS AWSOME!! Does it have a microcontroller?
no microcontroller, all mechanical which makes it cooler
@IceMetal
RoboBusiness sounds interesting I'll see if its possible to go.
As for drawing , what kind of drawing ? 3d models , schematics, etc.

I was trying to do it in autodesk inventor so it wil be with animation so you can see more details, becuase there is no electronics to do a schematic, it has 2 windshield motors, that I conect them to the joystick with a relay to go forward, and to do left and right I just turn off one motor with the joystick, but I will keep playing with the autodesk inventor so I can post it.,

ever thought of using

U get the $1000 of your own pocket or is it a project og some kind where u get some money?
I'd like to see it with the speed adjustment =) good work

$1000 that’s how much I had spend in research, like I had try many different ways with microcontrollers, and pneumatics, but at the end this is what I came out with, and $1000 is how much I want to sell it for to continue my research in robotics, because I don’t have a job and I'm living of savings, and I want to keep making robots better and better, and make the world so dependable on robotics as much as they are on computers. I know is a high dream, but don’t you think you wish more people like robotics as much as we do?
@ airman
I'm going to give it a try to that program tonight and see how it works thanks.

feel free to PM or email me for help
but remember to read my tutorial first!

I was giving another try to inventor, but I give up here are some pictures ,,, now I will start reading about that program :)
you can see in the pictures when the motor turns the shafts thats move up and down how is able to walk slow but walks :)

If you move the fulcrum of the red bar up a little bit closer to the middle, you should be able to get a larger step.... if im not mistaken.... though im pretty sure you would lose I tiny bit of torque but nothing significant... I think :P

That's true... the longer the distance the bigger the torque required!!!

I'm resurrecting this topic .....
Few questions:
How do I figure out the optimal lengths of the bars mathematically?
How do I figure out how wide/ heavy the feet have to be to balance on its own?
I have a feeling its just a simple levers problem
Thanks,
Eric
-
Yeap, its just a simple levers problem. Just trig, mostly.
(unless you want it to run, then its a dynamics issue)
Just calculate it as if it was a robot arm.
-
OK but what about the balancing part regarding how wide and heavy the feet have to be .
I need to find out how big a step I can make before tipping over.
I'll look into making it run soon .
thx for the quick reply
-
Google it. You'll find yourself reading actually science papers, as its fairly new stuff. If you draw up a FBD, I can help you with that too. Also read up the difference between static walking and dynamic walking.
(this probably deserves a new thread)

OK
Looking it up now and I'll start a new thread soon.
Thanks

I've been looking for a while now but can't get any good results . Any keywords you would suggest?
I'll start a new thread once I get it all settled and understand most of it

this is one of the most simple robots that you can build just to get the idea grab a few craft sticks, and try to conect them together using pieces of wires, I'm really bad explaining thigs as you can see, I have a few more videos of this robot I will try to post them in a couple of hours, the secret of this robot is you have to make it fall foward, you dont need any transistors or sensors or anything like that,
-
I've been looking at some more designs . Why would I need all those levers that IceMetal used? Why not do one of the simple designs in the videos below?

and this one also, which I think is basically IceMetal's design .....

hey Airman my design was like that becuase I needed a way to lift 200lbs with a windshield motor, if the robot is small, you can make it that way, but when is bigger thats when it gets more complicated, I made this one after seen all thouse Japanese robot similar to mine that they are so complicated and so expensive, I have no problems building them is just I notice people dont care about robotics, I posted the video on youtube thinking that I will get a lot of hits, I didnt get more than 200 withing a week while funny cats has over million, withing one week, thats why I give up on robotics, I was trying to upload other videos but when I put them on the computer didnt have any sound so I'm working on that,
-
ok thanks for the explanation Andres, I see what you mean and I will end up following your design for the most part. Thanks!
That is messed up that funny cats gets so many hits...
Well over here on the forum there is plenty of interest in robotics! Stick around with us! ;D
I would greatly appreciate more videos.
-
ok here are some old videos from the mech, I was trying to do the videos "back to the future" style, but there is a big different between a movie and reality

thank you so much for the video!
I have a quick question : Are you shifting the weight by moving around on the seat or are the motors doing that?

the motors are doing that as you can see in the video when I put the laundry bag on top of it, here is a close of up of the wires that are on the side, that when you the legs extend the wires change the balance

Isnt it kinda obvious why funny cats gets more hits then jiggling slothbot? :-\ I dont mean to be harsh, but you cant be searious? all I can say is dont quit your day job...
-
Looks awsome, a few more years of robotic research and this might be the new wheelchair for the disabled :P
-
Keep at it ice metal. Make sure you continue to look at all possible ways to make those legs move and still get the speed and torque you need. Perhaps hit a junkyard or something for parts... junkyard = heaven on earth. Ive been meaning to do that for a while now >_<
-

my point is that the average person doesnt care about robotics, and thats the reason why I stoped there and I didnt do any improvement, people doesnt seem to care. not even asimo that is a complex robot in develop for over 20 years got more hits than funny cats.

You could utilize a lot more efficient walking designs if you upgraded to maybe some high-torque wheel chair motors. Making things walk with payload can be one of the most difficult things; my to small bipeds failed at first ;).

YOu are right wheelchair motor would had work better, I just had thouse at home thats why I used them, they were like $16 each from allelectronics, all the parts were from home depot and the chair was from wallmart, this project it been sitting in the garage collecting dust, someday I will go back to it again, and make it walk like it supost to, and ad some arms to it :)
-
Dont forget lasers of doom :)
But I would recommend fiddling with what youve got just to see what you can come up with. Even if it has nothing to do with your original plans or anything. I think you would enjoy doing something like that as well as learning things or coming up with ideas inadvertently. And do that junkyard idea :)
