Quick question, torque ratio
« on: October 19, 2013, 01:33:28 PM »
Helu, just a quick question:
Is torque proportional to the gear ratio?
As in, 10Nm would be 20Nm with a 2:1 reduction?
Halfing speed and doubling torque?

Correct, to the first approximation. What is not considered is torque loss from the fiction in the gears. This loss is small per gear so not worth considering for simple gearing but can add up to considerable percent in a large gear train (many gears).
