i am seeking a power supply to run a regular ATX pc motherboard on 2 12 volt 100 amp hour DC gel cell batteries. the batteries normally power my Jazzy 1420 power wheelchair but the chair was recently replaced due to the frame being bent and un-reparable. i plan on using the motors wheels and elecronics from my old chair to build a tele robotic system using the ER1 controller system and software. the ER1 runs on a PC through multiple USB ports so i am looking to build a computer directly into the system.

If anyone is interested in helping out or know where i can buy or build the power supply please let me know. I live on the east side of san Jose California.

How many watts do you need?

For a computer up to 160W, you can use a picoPSU. This takes 11-14V or in, and powers the motherboard/peripherals directly; no need to go up to 110V which will just waste energy.

Beware that it's only specified for "12V in" so it may not be happy with the entire voltage range of your battery.

For a wider input range, the "M3-ATX":

(It comes in different wattage models, too -- I'm using a 120W version for my rover robot's PC)

160 watts is plenty but i need a power supply that can be used on a full sized desktop type motherboard not a mini motherboard it must also supply power to  multiple peripherals and drives. basically i am building an entire desktop system into the robotics project.

Look at both of these sites they may have something that will fit your needs:

http://www.powerstream.com/DC-PC-12V.htm

I have found a lot of dc powered computer products out there marketed for automotive computer installations.

Why do you think the picoPSU won't work?
Do you have a graphics card that draws power?
Or do you have more than one optical drive or more than one hard drive?
Or do you use a multi-CPU motherboard that needs more than one CPU power lead?

Mini motherboards and desktop motherboards all use the same 24-pin power connector. (Some of the picoPSUs come with 20-pin connectors, and may need an adapter -- that's true even for mini-ITX form factor motherboards.)
