servo modification - tutorial query
« on: March 09, 2010, 06:36:08 AM »
http://www.societyofrobots.com/actuators_modifyservo.shtml

i realise this is probably very basic but all i have at the moment is a box of bits and instructions telling me to plug my servo into the controller and send a signal to zero it?  this i do not understand!

obviously i have found the above post but i am unsure about zeroing the servo?  i havent got any software on my comp yet? do i need to download stuff to zero it? i am a newb and am following the guide but im stuck already!!   ??? ???

cheers

You are going to need to tell the servo to "go to the centered position" before you can adjust the Potentiometer. You could use the microcontroller you build for the $50 robot to do it. You could also use basic R/C hobby stuff. The process is covered in step 5 of the tutorial you linked.

i have read that but given that this is apparently the first step in building my robot im confused!

do i need to build the controller and have the code written and have it plugged into my comp in order to modify the servo?

thanks

Yes, you have to make the controller first to be able to center the servos.

down load the .hex file from the modification page and load it to your muc. when this is done you can work through the rest of the tutorial.
