An Introduction from Japan
« on: May 25, 2012, 09:53:59 PM »
Hi Guys,

My name is Chris and I live in Kagoshima Japan with my wife and daughter. My robot is an Er-1 which is the current state of needing some TLC. He recently acquired a laptop from my wife who stopped a job that required lots of travel, but upon adding the laptop, I found out the battery won't hold a charge. Some of his fasteners are also rusting (everything rusts in Japan). I'm also interested in getting ahold of a er-1 gripper arm as well as connecting with all robot fans. If there is anyone looking for the ER-1 software, I think I have the latest release before Evolution stopped supporting the robot.

Other things I'm into are, astrology, brass instruments, horology, chess, and chess computers. I'm not a computer science whiz but if I can help out with something, I'll do what I can.

Nice to meet everyone.
Chris

PS, what's up with the super hardcore anti spam verification? Does that go away at some point?

Dear Chris,

Nice to meet you.  I think the anti-spam stuff goes away after 5 posts.  About your other interests, did you mean that you're interested in astronomy as opposed to astrology?  Not very many people in the sciences buy into the idea of fate based on movements of planets and stars.  Also, do you mean brass instruments as in musical ones or steampunk-style mechanical manipulators?
Can't help you with your search for the ER-1 stuff.  Sorry.  I can point you towards a fix for rusted stuff though: http://www.instructables.com/id/Electrolytic-Rust-Removal-aka-Magic/ .

Welcome to SoR,
~Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the welcome. Yes of course I meant astronomy not astrology. That's the danger of trying to do an intro between classes I guess. Sorry for the poor word choice :D The brass instruments would be of the musical variety although steam-punk stuff is cool too, especially if it's actually usable.

Again, thank you for the information, about the spam filter, and the link for removing rust. I hope someday, I can return the favor.

Chris
