hehe, nice touch with the sound effects.

Some constructive comment:
- invest in some PWM-able motor driver circuits, that way you can make your motors start gently, instead of shocking your robot around.
- Make a construction to hold your laptop, and all that stuff on top of it

also, in the newer version of chives I am thinking of mounting the screen vertically on his body, or perhaps getting rid of the screen altogether.

I think it's awsome! You make me feel guilty that I have put aside the programming on my robot. I don't have the time and patience learning to program it (PC side...). I had another ideea of a robot and I'm trying to learn how to make it and program it. I am building a CNC to be able to cut the parts needed. It's all a slowww process...

You definitely need to add PWM to your robot. Try to get a bluetooth handset to send voice commands to Chives from anywhere in your house. Make voice commands like: Turn Left 10 Degrees, Move Forward Untill Stop, Move Forward 10 inches (or centimeters...), Stop!, Don't Crush the Flowers! Get Your Ass (Battery... or whatever the ass may be...) Over Here! and so on... At least this is how I test my robot. The only problem I have is that on Win98 voice recognition is weak. Gotta switch to Linux...

Vista Speech Recognition is what I used

I want to add more commands but I am so lazy

eventually ill write code for a ton of commands.

the bluetooth handset is cool idea, Ive used a cell phone to control him. I connected the handset speaker wire to the microphone input on the laptop.

lol! Im amused

All robots have humble beginnings, including running over its creator . . . or using a vice clamp to hold your laptop on it . . .

I see lots of promise in this bot so don't forget humble us when you have the option of posting your code when you fix it up

I use XP though so that could be a problem . . .

In general I really liked it. You and Ro-Bot-X should try and find a way to team up and share code and design and ideas . . .

As a comment about the jerky motors, you need PID control on it. For small low mass robots simple D control is fine, but your robot is heavy and tall so you can't avoid it. Basically something to give it a smooth acceleration to move and to stop.

urs is amazing......especially I liked da interface......did u make it on ur own? I was just wondering how the Vista Speech Recognition software links to your robot controller.....

Thanks, im in the middle of writing a tutorial on interfacing it. Also, I added some new features to chives, such as "what time is it", check weather , check traffic. Its really cool, I talk , he replies

I did do that through Yahoo Video Messenger

just used the sound output from there and connected it to the microphone jack

I can probably use the headphone jack of a cell phone as well, maybe Ill do that this week

actually you would need the transceiver to control your home, but with the w800rf and some x10 ds10a door/window sensors or x10 powerflash modules hooked up to sensors around the house then he could monitor the house.

yep you got me. Vista isn't the best for this type of program. I'm making the switch to Linux gradually, once I master Voice recognition on it.
