Title: Beginner's questions about microcontrollers and programmig language
Post by: jrobot on June 08, 2010, 12:12:14 PM
Hello,
I'm 14 years old and I want to build a robot. I have already built some 'machines' (I won't call them robots because they work mechanicaly).
I am very confused and I would ask you these questions (excuse for my English, I'm Spanish)

1-What microcntroller (max.70$) would you advice me, and what programming language(s) can go with it?
(Axon II is too much for me.)
(the robot will be simple, something like avoiding obstacles.I have already read the 50$ robot tutorial but the programming is already done, and I want to learn how to program a robot).

2-What (free) software would you use to program the microcontroller.

3-How do you put the 'program into the microcontroller.

Hi,

Just because the $50 robot code is already done, it doesnt mean that you cant program it to do something else. That way you can use the original code as a learning reference.

The $50 robot tutorial shows you where to get free programming software, and the $50 includes a hardware programmer and shows you how to download your code.

Seriously, build the $50 robot to get the basic understanding and to set yourself up with the things you need for building a robot. Then program it to do something else, adding more sensors will let you get more data from the surroundings and make more complex programs.
