Title: axon2 backorder
Post by: scottad73 on October 08, 2010, 11:55:42 AM
I read that the axon 2 is on back order.  Do you have an idea of how long till they will be available?

It says until around October 20th.

Longer . . . I'm pushing it to November 1st soon.

You have no idea the nightmares/frustration I'm having with getting my manufacturers coordinated. :-\

Thank you for the update!

arrggggggggggggggg

A certain ex-manufacturer still has $1200 parts of mine, and isn't answering his phone anymore when I call . . .

I'm going to push it back yet again to Nov 13th, soon . . .

I was just wondering, is it possible to get just the main board at this point? As far as surface mount parts I have a setup for soldering them...

Title: Re: axon2 backorder
Post by: Admin on October 24, 2010, 10:41:58 AM
The problem is my ex-manufacturer still has some of the parts :-\

I've recently decided that if I still can't get the parts by next week, I'm just going to call it an expensive financial loss and buy new components. :-X

Hopefully they will get those parts to you soon, would really like to get the Axon2.

So here is the deal . . . most of the time I call my ex-manufacturer, he ignores my calls.

When he does answer, he always assures me in a convincing way that he'll have them shipped within ~2 days. The last time was about 6 days ago, but still no parts. :-X

bbllaaahhhhhhhhhhh

Post by: thx123 on October 30, 2010, 01:39:29 PM
I would be going nuts if I had to deal with something like that, or at least get a few friends together and pay em a visit to see what the problem was.

Title: Re: axon2 backorder
Post by: Admin on November 06, 2010, 08:04:25 PM
I have both bad and good news. The bad news is that I'm pushing back the shipping date to Dec 10th.

My ex-manufacturer has been ignoring my calls and emails for months, and the two times I've managed to reach him he has promised to send my parts right away each time. This is why I keep breaking my promise of the shipping date. Well, I've decided he has lied and is keeping them, so I'm going to call it a huge financial loss.

Now for the good news. I've made new purchases of the parts, and worst case scenario the Axon II will ship on the 10th of December.

I've never lost so much money at once, I think I'll go cry now :'(

(ok, I'm not really crying, but my wallet is lol)

Thank you for the update, it's really too bad some people are like that. Hopefully in December I'll be able to get one ordered.....

haha wow, if I had lost 1200 dollars because of a manufacturer being an fucktard I would probably cry :3

robotics is too expensive of a hobby to be losing that kind of money on

If I remember right from a previous post he is in AL someplace. I'm in the Florida panhandle. Maybe we could get some more SOR people from the area and go get the parts... Or at least get someone on the ground knock on his door with police presence. Shouldn't be to big a deal if you can prove the parts are yours with documentation and have someone with boots on the ground.

The amount lost is actually closer to $5k . . . the $1.2k is just the parts I needed asap.

I have the phone number to reach the managers' mom, and I've spoken to her a few times. Nice lady, bad son . . . If it wasn't for her, I would have never have even reached him the few times I did.

This is the info I have . . .

4 hour drive one way for me & Asellith, or i'd go.

What's the prize for resolving in an immoral way?  ;D ;D  j/k.

I guess it depends on your definition of moral. I have some buddies that go pretty low.  ;D  i am pretty close to "Swamp Justice" part of the country.

Trossen, from Trossen Robotics, told me he once hired large scary men to forcefully retrieve $15k of stolen robot goods. The jerk never paid for what he ordered, and tried selling the goods cheap on Ebay with his actual mailing address . . . moron.

Anyway, lawyers are cheaper than $5k for small claims, so if the guy stays a jerk for another month, I have another options. But I'd honestly rather not go that route, and prefer to exhaust my non-stop phone-calling patience first . . . lol

O wow.

large scary men

I'm 6'5" and 280 lbs, good enough to be called 'large and scary' IMHO,  Asellith lives an hour west of me. If he is anything close in size, I think we'd make a good SOR posse.  ;D

If only I had time for an all day road trip....

3 and a half hours for me. Its tempting but I already have both axons :) If it was closer I would totally go.

Admin have you thought about sending a nasty letter that is all official and notarized threatening legal action? Would help prove your efforts at contact if it went to court and also scare him enough to maybe get his butt in gear. I suspect the problem isn't returning the parts, its the fact the parts are lost, sold, or used for something else. So he his messing around hopping you give up before he has to cough up the cash to replace them.

If someone is near Montgomery then this is a good opportunity for an hour drive or so.

Hire a lawyer to right him an official threatening letter.  You would be surprised what that can get accomplished.

I agree with robotcoder, the faster you take action the bigger chance you get the stuff you paid for. The longer you wait there is a chance his is broke or bankrupted.

After these constant delays, I think I've lost all credibility with you guys on this . . . well, I'm going to have to flake out on the date again . . .

update: My current manufacturer has begun assembling the new Axon IIs. Yay! Thanksgiving holidays caused a week of delays for them, understandably. Well, they estimated a 2 week timeframe, so that means with shipping and other delays, the absolute earliest I can ship out is probably the 21st. To be honest that really is disappointing, as I really want to ship out to you guys before Christmas shipping goes crazy . . .

Hopefully the last of the delays are over with. :-X

Admin I sympathize with you. I'm trying to get a product to market right now that is just killing me with delays. The company I have printing my stuff broke a printer and after they got that fix forgot to tell me that they lost their supplier for the width of fabric I needed. Now I wait and hope they find another cotton supplier. I also have to learn to serge in the next week so that will be fun... Should have stuck with electronics at least I understand those.

I finally have some good news, sort of.

My current manufacturer just emailed me this:
Quote
The boards are finished with surface mount and are now in second assembly/inspection.

That basically means they are halfway done, and I have a good chance of shipping out before Christmas. :D
Title: Re: axon2 backorder
Post by: Admin on December 18, 2010, 07:27:21 PM
I haven't yet heard back from my manufacturer . . . which means they haven't shipped it to me yet . . . which means it might be another week at least until I see them.

I'm going to regrettably push back the delivery date yet again to after Christmas. :-X

I won't give a new date estimate until after I talk to them, though . . .

I just got this email from my manufacturer:

Quote
Looks like your boards are just about to ship.  We have a
few that we needed to rework which should be complete either today or
tomorrow.  I'll send you an email when they are shipping.
Title: Re: axon2 backorder

They just sent me a pic of a completed board. Everything looks correct, so one less worry/holdup to have :)
Title: Re: axon2 backorder
Post by: Admin on December 25, 2010, 07:59:43 PM
I got this email 3 days ago from them . . .
Quote
We are done with all but 7 boards. These 7 boards are short U1.  Do you want
us to DNI these parts and ship out all your boards today?  Please advise.

I told them within minutes to DNI the parts, but they never replied back. Instead I got an auto-response . . .
Quote
I will be out of the office Dec 23 - Jan 3.

Which gives me the horrible feeling they put off the shipping for 10 days because of holidays  :(

I just got this email 20 minutes ago:

Your boards are shipping today. I will send you the shipping info.

I'm going to stay pessimistic, however, until I actually have them in my hands.

(The absolute best case scenario means I ship out January 5th, cross your fingers!)

That's great news! At least when I say I have to wait until next year, it's not that far off :)

Happy Holidays!

I just got this email 18 minutes ago . . .

Quote
Your order is shipping today.

This time they charged my account, without a hitch . . . but they still haven't given me a tracking number for the shipment yet . . .

edit: There was a hitch . . . they overcharged me 35% more than the contract . . . blaaahhh lets see how long it takes for them to find the accounting error . . . :-X
Title: Re: axon2 backorder
Post by: Admin on December 28, 2010, 09:14:59 PM
I *think* the overcharge issue has been resolved . . .
Quote
Thanks John. I just forwarded it to my accounting. I will be in touch!

So then I inquired about the tracking number again, and got this . . .
Quote
Just missed the window for shipping today. Will ship tomorrow overnight.

In other news, I still haven't gotten any of my parts back from my previous manufacturer . . . I'm considering pursuing them in a small claims court . . . anyone here a lawyer? :-X
Title: Re: axon2 backorder
Post by: Admin on December 30, 2010, 06:37:21 PM
The overcharge was resolved, but only after they charged me that huge amount. They then canceled the charge in full, and tried to re-charge me the correct amount.

Well, my bank apparently didn't like all those huge strange charges to my account, so it's now denying the full amount from being charged. Not sure when my bank will figure it out . . .

Anyway, my manufacturer won't ship anything until after the charges go through, so nothing has been shipped yet :(
Title: Re: axon2 backorder
Post by: Admin on January 04, 2011, 01:17:36 PM
update . . .

Apparently Mastercard freaked out with these mysterious big charges and blocked further transactions until I gave them a call . . . completely locked my account . . . they really should notify customers ya know?

Anyway, the charges went through correctly this time, and my manufacturer gave me a tracking number saying they ship today.

As before, I'm going to stay pessimistic until its actually in my hands. Given that I'm 14 months behind schedule, I'm expecting a freak tornado to wipe out the shipment lol :-X

I just looked up the tracking number and the last status is:

Fingers crossed!

If I get it today, and absolutely nothing else goes wrong, it means I ship out Friday!

got some bad news . . .

So I called up UPS to discuss the problem. I then watched out my window like a lonely puppy that missed his master.

Saw the UPS truck drive by . . . ran outside half dressed 'cause I just finished my shower . . . and got the packages.

I then opened it up . . . tested a unit . . . and . . . wait for it . . . waaaiiiittt fffoooorrr iitttt . . . IT WORKS!!!

So, *I ship your Axon II out on Friday morning*.

The bad news is that you probably won't have it in your hands until Tuesday or Wednesday next week :P

(so glad the nightmare is over . . . well . . . except my previous manufacture still hasn't returned anything)

FYI - If you've been putting off ordering an Axon II until this was resolved, get your orders in by tonight to be included in this weeks shipment. Otherwise you'll have to wait another week :P

Good news and bad news . . .

I finally got my parts returned (well, I didn't count, but it looks right). Calling up the manufacturers mom on a weekly basis for months did the trick :P

That, and the last time I called her I said "I'm considering taking legal action, I'd rather not, but the value of the parts is much greater than the cost of legal action."

The bad news is that I already spent thousands replacing everything, lost sales, and probably need to spend another thousand repairing all the damaged Axons they sent me . . . so it's still a loss. :-X

In other news, I got what looks like about $50 of mysterious parts that aren't mine in the same box. Probably from another customer of my ex-manufacturer . . . if you can name the parts, it's yours. You got about 6 months to claim it before I give it away/sell it :P

Now for the name and shame . . . the guys name is James Long and the now defunct company name was Lil Brother LLC. His UPS account is 350R22  Lil Brother LLC. I wouldn't trust this man, he'll always tell you what you want to hear then not actually do it. He always had an excuse for everything, but mostly just never returned phone calls or emails. I only called once a week.

I have his cell phone number and email (he doesn't answer either), and his mom's address and phone number (a very nice lady). I won't make that public as I'm still a nice guy, but if you need it to pursue you're lost parts send me an email.

Well in the least you got the parts back, which is a good thing. I was starting to wonder if you would ever see the parts after not being able to contact him.

I have sort of an idea, you mentioned damaged Axon's, depending on what needs to be repaired, what about selling them as-is? I have a decent SMD re-work station as well as other tools for replacing/repairing electronics and wouldn't mind buying a few just to work on..

Let me know

Well, I was planning to hire a company to rework them. It's about 130 units (I just counted), so I figure it'll cost me ~$5 to $10 each. The 640 chip in the center has a ton of solder bridges and not enough solder on other pins. Unless you really enjoy reworking boards, I'd rather just sell you a fully working, tested, and bootloader programmed Axon II :P

Are you considering sending one bad soldered axon 2.... I just got my hot air station and I'm good at repairs... :-DDD

And I only consider paypal payment ;-)

I'm just trying to hit a discount here... Maybe desolder and use the parts elsewhere... 7seg looks nice and the atmega on the center too :-p

I can understand that, just wanted to throw that idea out there, i've re-worked some pretty sad electronics boards, ones where a microscope really helps :)
