The SoR Summer Community Project?
« on: May 04, 2008, 02:38:55 PM »
Hey Guys, I've been away for quite a while due to school work, but recently scoring an unconditional offer into a Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science has take a lot of pressure of my exams.

When I was last active on the forum, well the only time I was ever active on the forum, there was a summer community project being planned, I even started prototyping some boards for it although I never got very far and didn't write anything up.  I was wondering if this is still going on? or if anyone has done any more for it?

If not, is anyone intrested in continuing it?  I read another forum post talking about a group research project (http://www.societyofrobots.com/robotforum/index.php?topic=4060.0) but I much preferred the idea of the other project.

Thanks,

Crooksie

(What made me come back to this site was seeing a comment I made on the fan mail page of SoR  :D

I'm not sure if the other project is still going but i'm interested in continuing it

Are we starting a new one completely  or are we picking up where the others left off

we were kinda picking up where the old one left off.
we took the old ones ideas and used them to base our project off of.
what do you mean by "continuing it"?
are you saying you would like to help?

well, just name what you want to do.
do you want to assist with software of someone elses module or make your own?

What do you think

well, a wheel encoder is a bit plain but, if you think this is a good module go for it!
if you need help with designing ive put up a makeshift tutorial in the member tuts about it...

Hey smash, I am thinking about a wheel encoder module if that is still availabe

What do you think

This is a sensor board, not a real module, that means it will be connected to a DC motor controller module or directly to the main microcontroller. If the motor doesn't have the encoder integrated, such a board would be a good way to add an encoder to the robot. I was thinking about building one, but I want more resolution and I prefer a motor with integrated encoder. Take a look at the available Wheel Encoder boards at robotic stores and build something similar.
Check out the uBotino robot controller!

i'm not sure, i could make another moduale but i dont know what

what do you think

if i build another module i will still work on the wheel encoder as a second project

well, you can find a list of suggested modules at http://www.freewebs.com/smash-robotics/motorcontrollermodule.htm
otherwise just follow your imagination ;D

On other thoughts i'll keep making the wheel encoder sensor board but i am happy to do something else as well

i'll start the design soon

where should i post about this from now on, on the community project electronics page or what

well, for a module you can make your own thread to post designs, results or just updates.
i would say most likely in electronics.
