Motor up and down motion
« on: February 28, 2011, 02:03:59 AM »
Hi so I am having trouble thinking this up as I don't have any kind of software to draw what I want and I totally suck at mechanics.

Anyway I am after building something which will open and close a plug on a water tank by lifting it up and shutting it when I want to, controlled by a motor controller and a PIC all isolated and I will think about waterproofing later.

But yeah, I am thinking to attach a servo to a rod which will then be attached to the bottom of the plug this will obviously have to be outside the flushing pipe of the plug, I am really not sure how to get it to lift up and down.

Any help would be grand.

If you are simply trying to open and close a plug on a water tank (I am assuming you wish to control the water level of the tank by releasing water when required?), why not try the following idea:
This method would provide a waterproof solution to your problem.
Hope it helps =).

A lot easier way is to use a solenoid (google: water solenoid).  If you really need an up/down motion google: firgelli linear actuators.

*Hi,

[...] I totally suck at mechanics.
A good reason to get one of either of these.

A rather fast and fairly heavy robot with quite large wheels needs what? A lot of power?
