model boat competition

The rules are pretty simple. Use airsoft guns, make the hull soft enough to take damage, and drive around until your boat wins or sinks.

I remember reading about this in RC boat magazines when I was a kid. Still cool stuff though.

So I was too lazy to really explain the rules in detail. I read them fully like ~2 years ago, but forgot a bit. Anyway, just got this email:

Well you did over simplify us a bit. There are actually some complex rules and we vote on them and change them once in a while. We actually shoot BBs and 3/16, 7/32 and 1/4" ball bearings. The sides of the ships are balsa but the frames are hard and there is internal shielding to protect critical components. Most ships use CO2 gas systems and we have penetration tests  to make sure the guns aren't too powerful. We wear goggles or face shields and occasionally get shot in the leg which can hurt quite a lot. Some people have even bled when shot at close range, but the normal shot to the shin just hurts a bit.

It reminds me of the Malcolm in the Middle episode where Hal soups up his little crappy boat to destroy that brat of a kids' boat. Really cool, thanks for sharing. :)

Yeah, i was kinda surprised that you actually sink the opponents ship...
But then again, that's how it works in the real world isn't it?

These boats even have little bilge pumps that try to pump out water to keep the ship afloat longer.
And even though they really do sink, all the components are sealed so they can be dried off, the hull repaired and then they're good to go again.

Wow, the complexity never seizes to amaze me!
I suppose that's easy enough to do, just repair it after every "fight"...
