What happened to AVR Freaks?!?!?!?!
« on: January 01, 2009, 08:35:49 PM »
For two to three days not only AVR Freaks is done but it also
sends me a trojan every time I try to enter the site...
This is totally frustrating cause AVR Freaks have many many goodies on AVRs
But it's also very sad as it seems it's been hacked for good!!!

Anyone knowing anything.... ??? ???

I dunno what happened

People DO NOT go to avrfreaks.net . Sends you some bad stuff. I have Adblock Plus and PeerGuardian so I was OK, but do not go there!
Check out the Roboduino, Arduino-compatible board!

Is this avrfreaks.com you're referring to?
My laptop is running like a bag o crap since visiting there last.
None of my antivirus programs are picking up anything
The question that drives me hazy:

Am I, or the others crazy?

Something bad is going on for sure... JUST DO NOT GO THERE......
It's not virus free....

I use bitdefender.... It hard to operate but it has it all.....
If you can't buy look for a crack... I'm sorry to tell this but, sometimes it's necessity...

http://www.avrfreaks.net/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=printview&t=73029&start=20

Here you can find some info... It seems they are running a PHP exploit to gain access over the server...
For any reason do not go there.... AGAIN....

I don't know what this trojan.script.4...... does but you don't want to learn the bad way really do you...

anyone know which process gets infected and how to tell (manually)?
I know this isn't really the place for this post.

The laptop that is running like a bag o crap is actually my wife's, It's running vista. I appear to have 2 igfxsrvc.exe processes, 2csrss.exe processes and some spurious memory readings from some other processes.
The result of these are intermittent internet connection and when it is connected it's DAMN slow. I've tried to find out which processes are running at a higher level when connected to the net but the computer slows right down too and i can't see what's going on.
I've tried google but don't really understand some of the results, I've also tried other (free) antivirus/antimalware programs to no avail. Even boot time scans show nothing.
TRICKYNERO: I would follow your suggestion but my wife won't allow me to run any software that wasn't aquired in a legal manner. I really don't have £40+ to blow on a program at this point.
Even a pointer to a place i should be looking would be great.
Thanks in advance guys and gals

Man!!! Man!!! First, at the privacy of your own home... you can download anything... Make your wife sure of it.... :P
Only if the computer is used for work, and only if you don't know the uninstall processes should you worry...

Also, the fact is that you would have legal problems, if you were actually stealing... To steal you must take something by force from another...
Personally.... I feel like doing survey... let's be real....

Of course if you want to support......................... buy........
But in order to be fully satisfied.... you must test the product.... and a happy costumer can test something even for 10 years......
Be real.....

I browsed google and apparently avrfreaks also had viruses in 2004 and 2007.

That being said, I just visited the site and neither Norton nor my firewall went crazy . . . I assume it's safe now.

The hacker probably downloaded the avrfreaks.net forum database . . . they probably have emails/passwords by now . . . at least its safer to assume so! :-X

Is the wife and not having £40 somehow connected? :P

Yeah :D .It's her laptop that's running like crap. I HATE WINSLOW$. Well mainly when it's not working. The not having £40 to blow was a choice between buying parts for my first attempt at an I2C board (and a couple other things), Santa robbing me blind  ;)  and the fact that it's her laptop and not mine ;D

This is just an urban legend unfortunately.... with it being an operating system, they would just release patches/upgrades (even if it means patching it so it degrades to windows xp).

They did recall the beta version that was mass distributed, apparently if an error occured while submitting a web form then the debugger automatically sent the form details to an employees email (meaning that she had thousands of credit card number being email, which she obviously abused?) this could also be an urban legend though...

A free anti-malware tool is available here http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php the free version will scan your system and remove any malware. if you get the paid version it involves real time scanning etc... but if you already have an infected system then all you need is the free version.

Just to let you guys know, if you get the virus "AntiVirus 2009" (or 2008), malwarebytes' program will get rid of it for you.
