As a novelty hardware hack, I'd say it is possible. But if you wanted the most capable robot you personally could make, I'd say you could do much better with less hackery using a decent micro such as an AVR, ARM, or PIC.
BTW, does anybody have any links on how the I/O protocol works for the TI89? (I believe it's the same as TI84) Because I've wanted to try to make a sort or robotics platform for a calculator for a while now... But it's hard to find that kind of info on the web...
