R/C 90cc ATV project - Steering problem
« on: December 09, 2010, 01:31:04 AM »
Hi everyone,

Currently I’m working on a remote control ATV and I’m done with the break and the throttle but can’t figure out how to steer the bike!!
After searching in the internet I found window geared motor will be the best choice with Sabertooth dual 12A motor driver for R/C

So can you please help me in this project because I still got some questions on mind and even I’m not sure if what I found in the net will be the best option for the project?

Best Regards,
Nasser

Hi,

I don't think a power window motor will be strong enough to handle well. On an ATV, you need fast corrections (if in rough terrain at least) and the power window motor gets its strength from a heavy gearing.

You need something larger, perhaps a proper geared wiper motor will do.

A rather fast and fairly heavy robot with quite large wheels needs what? A lot of power?

Thanks Soeren for reply

But what do you think about Sabertooth dual 12A motor driver for R/C is it the right one for the steering?

Hi,

But what do you think about Sabertooth dual 12A motor driver for R/C is it the right one for the steering?
First you need to find a motor with the needed strength - then the current requirement will determine if a 12A driver will do (the stall current actually).

aha ok so I have think about it in the other way  ::)

I did a simple drawing for the steering with a swapper motor but I’m still concern about the torque it needs and if a single motor will be enough

Do you recommend any motor or I just have to go for the biggest?

Nasser
