Finally finished (basically) my $50 robot
« on: June 11, 2009, 03:30:58 PM »
Hello all! It's been a long time in the work but I've basically finished my $50 robot. The sensors don't seem to be very sensative so it mostly drives straight and the wheels only twitch once in a while. I'll see if I can adjust the software a little. If that doesn't work I'll build a couple of different sensors and see if that works. I still need to shorten a few of my wires and what not but here it is. What do you think?

well, first off i love the idea to use a tin to house everything!
it saves the trouble of getting servo mounts and the trouble of looking at an ugly battery pack.if you dont want to fiddle much with the photocell you can move over to the sharp ir upgrade.

I intend to. I've already got one onhand I just need some more time to play around with it. Do you know what behavior the bot has after completing admin's sharp tutorial?

Wow, I am very impressed, looks neat and tidy, and the tin makes it look cool. Props to you for finishing your $50 Robot. :)

It will give your robot a wall avoiding behavior, instead of the light following/avoiding type of behavior with the photocells.

well, the behavior with the code admin provides is just wall avoiding...
but you could load any code on there because you now have a dev platform!
maybe even load up the stampy code? http://www.societyofrobots.com/robot_sumo.shtml

I had problems with the photocells also, They just simply where not sensitive enough. If you want you can play around with the threshold in the code to get the right balance, but other than that it is not worth it when you can have an awesome sensor on there and not a super cheap one ;)
some people are just Born smart, but some people have to work for it, and those are the people who succeed.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll see if I can get the sharp IR upgrade done in the next few days. Unfortunately I have to work all weekend so it may have to wait till next week. I guess that will give me a little time to try to figure out how to intigrate one more servo onto my bot.  When I decided to use that tin I didn't consider how I would install the Sharp sensor. Maybe I'll just throw it on the front sticking out. I'll get more pics up when it's done.

Thank you Admin for creating this site.
Thank you Webbot for the PDF file you created.
