My $50 robot
« on: June 21, 2008, 08:46:52 PM »
Im still workin on my bot, but i thought id post some pics of what ive done so far!

Base with servos mounted finally. (yes the wheels are held on with rubber bands!:P)

Battery Holder made out of Lexan. Battery was $2.96 at thesource.ca

Another pic of the base.

Ill post some more pics when i get some more accomplished.  Waiting on a new mega8 chip to rule out a faulty chip for programming.

Nice bot,

but do you know if you can run the $50 bot with 7.2 V? or will that kill it?

My first robot ran at 9V and I didn't understand electronics too much then xD but even though it never worked could I still call that my first robot? because all i'd have to do is get a 5V regulator implemented into the circuit...

:P well if u still have the bot kickin around why not finish off the circuit? :) im not touching another bot until this $50 robot of mine is completely done and upgraded. I think im going to make the plain $50 bot, and than build a second with the upgrades.

can someone tell me if it looks like my servos are mounted correctly. I know they are on the same as admins, but i seem to be getting the "check to make sure one isnt on backwards"  and i really dont understand how u could put it on backwards.

thanks airman. this plastic has to be some of the best material for building small light robots.

On another note, I think i may have found a mistake in the tutorial for the $50 robot.

Correct me if im wrong, but this is quoted from the tutorial
Quote
Now add the LED as shown, slightly above the board. Make sure the longer lead (+) of the polarized LED is on the side closer to the DIP socket. Solder it in, but DO NOT cut the leads! (not yet)

Im currently building my second $50 robot and followed these steps exactly as shown and my led doesnt work again. I thought maybe i put it in backwards last time, but i know for sure i put the longer lead  closest to the dip socket this time. For gits and shiggles i put another led up to the old one, making sure to have the shorter side closest to the DIP socket, and it works fine!!.

Not sure if anyone else has caught this, but might make it easier on someone troubleshooting if the tut was updated with this! :)

Long lead of LED is +

the side of the LED that has that flat thing on bottom is the negative side
