Control lightbulb with IR

I want to control the light switch in my room with a remote control, either the TV remote or a custom built IR transmitter.
Does anyone have any tips as to where i should start on building an IR reciever for this purpose?

use google to find out how to build an ir sensor and the link provided by the admin. Perhaps station the ir receiver were your light switch would be...
