Golf playing robot - suggestions needed
« on: February 13, 2010, 04:09:07 AM »
Hi all,

The tutorials on this site have been very informative for me but still i would like some suggestions for my project.
As a university project i am building a golf playing robot. The idea is to send the position of the ball and the hole wirelessly via PC to the robot and it will move to the ball and shoot it towards the hole by itself.

For wireless communication i am thinking Wifi, using the EZL - 90 board which converts Wifi signals into serial signals and vice versa (no need for access point).

For the golf club i think a stepper motor would be the best right?

Should i use DC motors, stepper motors or servos for movement? (i am thinking a tank like base for the bot and i won't be guiding the robot to the ball, the PC will calculate the trajectory and command the robot)
and what electronics are necessary for each motor??

Any suggestions, ideas or remarks???

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

It would be a very good idea to post what you have done to reach your goal so far.
Regards,
Søren

A rather fast and fairly heavy robot with quite large wheels needs what? A lot of power?
Please remember...
Engineering is based on numbers - not adjectives

Your project is too good .But to see the position of the ball what are you using ??
Means You are  using tha camera .
And in which language you will code in PC.
Matlab
C
or any else.
Just like your project there is competetion FIRA.
You must watch vedio on www.fira.net
11 vs 11
that is very nice.
And wireless communication is not a problem here .You can use Wi-Fi
or you can use GSM also .
Or if you want a small distance robot than you may also use simple transmitter and receiver .
Firstly you must code in the PC.
that is tough in this project ......

Best Of Luck ..........

The programming is not a problem for me, i am a very good programmer, i will use C to write the codes.
The problem is that i'm confused whether to use DC or stepper motors, and if DC what is the best board to control them.

Thanks for the link btw :)
