Frequency Conversion

I just received a Hitec Neon ss-fm transmitter and receiver package from www.towerhobbies.com and was wondering if i could simply swap out the crystals, so that it could be a surface module, rather than strictly aircraft. Is this possible, or am i doomed to be forever stuck with an air only kit?
