Robotics for Computer Science student

So hey there,bots people!Wassup?
I am a computer science second year student and feel inclined towards making one bot to get started into robotics.But I feel a bit confused as per that would it be a fruitful idea enough ?
As instead of robotics I can pay more of attention to programming and web development.
Motto for me to get involved in this robotics is to broaden my thinking skills and yes,to get my self into ROBO-groove.
Plz suggest,how good is going into this helpful to me?
