Alternative to welding

Hi,

I wanted to connect coat hangers together, but I don't have welder.  Is there some sort of alternative to welding that is cheap?  Please answer me!

Well you can braze it.

Hi,

If soldering (or epoxying), wrapping with thin wire first will give added strength.
Metal coat hangers could perhaps just be twisted hard together (with pliers).

if you have a grinder (I have done this with a file, to prove it could be done),

take the two ends of the wire,

grind lengthways an L shape in the wire, so when put together it forms one bit of wire, with an overlap.

epoxy/solder/braze that together.

then wrap with thin wire and epoxy/solder/braze that.
when wraping with wire, tight close in binding for strength, slightly loser if strength isn't an issue, but is just subject to vibration.

If 50W or higher it should do, but otherwise, a flame will help - eg. one of the "turbo" lighters with a pointy flame (and something nonflammable and isolating to go on the table), just be extra carefull when operating with an open flame!

For soldering this sort of stuff one of those butane solder pens from Radio Shack work great. Regular soldering irons I find just cool down too fast to be useful. I used to solder brass together using the butane soldering irons, endless heat for gobs of solder.

Try a WTCP50 with a short wide tip, It will solder a car starter cable
