Battery help.

so i have two 6v rc batteries. they arent like the battery packs that have the white connector at the end.  they have the metal on the side. its a square slide in battery.  what should be my method for connecting them?  just solder the wires in where the white connector thing would go?(i assume) and if i use this method do i have to use the battery mod similar to the 4.8v battery pack style?
