Pentapod robot with unique gaits

I really like the gaits on this pentapod (5 legged robot). Almost seems like it could jump . . .

That's really cool!  But what are the advantages of pentapods over hexapods or quadrapods?  Cost/maneuverability?  Cheaper than a hexapod but more balanced and maneuverable than a quadrapod?
